"It makes me want to buy school supplies."
Fall into a new Marshall and the Movies feature + some questions.
Hello friends! Hope everyone is having a cozy start to meteorological fall and Libra season.
I think I’m finally recovered from Venice … so naturally, I’m ready to throw myself into another film festival starting on Monday night! The New York Film Festival begins press screenings tomorrow, basically ensuring my residency at its hosting venue of Lincoln Center for the next month.
With new releases still not giving me much to work with (what else is there to say about Don’t Worry Darling?), I’m using this weekend’s newsletter to ask some questions of you! I’ve got quite a bit planned for the next six months, but I always seek to hear what’s resonating on your end to provide an even more useful and enjoyable newsletter experience.
Also, I’m excited to announce a new feature for paid subscribers! I get many one-off requests from folks who want suggestions for more movies to watch around some unique hook. Maybe it’s a mood. Maybe it’s a genre. Maybe it’s something else entirely! Whatever it is that you want more of, I’m happy to provide subscribers with a new offering I’m calling…
Subscribers will have access to a Google Form where they can input what they’re looking to have me curate around, with the ability to put in certain guardrails around types of content they want to avoid (ex. don’t want to be scared, can’t handle violence, no gross-out comedy). I’ll provide a reasonable amount of reviews to remove any titles if they miss the mark or have already been seen. You are welcome to keep the list private, but I’d love to be able to share it with other readers if you grant me permission — anonymity is allowed, too.
So paid subscribers, fill out the form below! (And if you’re not, you’ll get a paywall here — where you have the ability to learn more about the various subscription options.)
Stay tuned for proof of concept here — I am still pending approval on the first mixtape for the person who put this idea in my head to begin with.
